Vending was an attractive solution for Delta from a pure labor savings standpoint. They didn’t have a direct interest in reducing waste or spend (although they no doubt were aware that there could have been some there). Their primary concern was to eliminate the “wondering” around time their employees did while looking for product. Ultimately, their employees’ responsibility was working on planes, not searching for PPE to wear to make sure they were safety compliant. The machines, along with a VMI program that Conney Safety set up, has allowed them to consolidate all of their products into different areas throughout the maintenance lines so that their employees know exactly where to go to get what they need. They’ve also contracted a retired Delta employee to manage the inventory, fill the machines, and provide low hanging maintenance to the machines to keep them up and running at the rate Delta has required.
